catch-up

Hello Guys;:

Its been a while since I last posted. However, I do have an excuse for that! I have been LAZY. Probably just as lazy as you are, since you are reading this pointless apology for not blogging.

Any who... I have begun a new challenge this past month. It is called the V-Challenge EXTREME. in six weeks I have to run 150 miles and complete various workouts through out the challenge. The reason why I like this idea is because it has kept me running. I am becoming very comfortable in myself and my running. I have ran more in the past few months than I have in my entire life. I encourage everyone to set a goal. Having a concrete goal on your mind helps encourage you to achieve this goal. I have set a goal to run my Rock and Roll Half Marathon in New Orleans in under 1 hour and 30 minutes. My main goal is to complete an Olympic distance triathlon in 2.10.00. This is what I am still striving to complete.

*cough*COUGH*

OK. I appologize for being so distant this past week. I was very very sick! I was terrible. I seem to think if you only get sick once a year, that time that you actually do get sick is TERRIBLE!!

But back to work this week. I missed out on my Team Squish workouts, but had a lot of fun watching their results. Teamsquish.blogspot.com

Running while smoking

The run yesterday was not as planned. I started after Adam Carlisle cooked the Varsity Crew dinner. Although the best part of the dinner was the cookies cooked by LoJo. So, my advice to you is to not start your run as late as I did. Anyways, the air was very smokey from the marsh fire in New Orleans. I ran a short route that I have began doing this summer. The route goes through the campus of LSU and then around the lakes. It is around 6.5 miles. It is also just nice to run through the campus at night.

My run this afternoon was supposed to be for the Team Squish 2-Mile race. I was going to do a 2.5 mile warm up, then a 2 mile time-trial, and then a short warm down. I clicked the start button on my Garmin Forerunner 610, and began the warm up. I have not ran through my parents neighborhood in about 6 months, but I do remember the distances of the streets. When I got to the end of my street, the watch said I had gone an extra .4 miles. I did not understand why it was saying this and it took my mind off of my training. I ended up finishing the run I was going to do. When I was finished I had no idea why it was not saying the correct distance. Then I remembered that I let a guy play with my watch at Varsity Sports, and he switched my distance from miles to Kilometers. It made me laugh, but I can say he bought himself a Garmin 610! So I will do my 2-mile TT tomorrow before I go to Dallas for the LSU vs. Oregon game. While there I will have that post run beer. What do y'all think?

First day

Hey guys, this is my blog to talk about how my training is going towards my goal of a 2:10 olympic triathlon. I have set the goal and plan on racing to this time by the begining of April in 2012. The race will be the Collegiate National Championships. It seems like a very attainable goal for me since I have never really trained for anything in this field. I have done an Ironman triathlon in November 2011, but I was definitely not as prepared as I should have been. I went into the Ironman expecting "if he can do it so can I." That was definitely not true! But as for now I am setting this goal of 2:10 in an Olympic Tri and I WILL break it.

Now mind you since the Ironman was hard does not mean I didn't have fun. I did have the best time racing of my life with the people I cared the most about! My brother Ricky Larrimer and one of our best friends Marcus Taylor also did the race. We all did great! It was awesome going around the corners on the bike course and seeing everyone out there cheering us on. It was also a great feeling when I saw Ricky and Marcus on the course. That got my competitive edge pumping and made me want to catch them. The coolest feeling was when the announcer at Ironman Florida said "Jay Larrimer, You are an Ironman!"

Anyways back to what I was saying about my main goal. Yesterday, I have begun to build my run base. The run is a VERY weak section of mine, and I need to get my 10k time below 40 minutes if I ever want to come near 2:10. I will be using a 10k training program that the one and only Jenni Peters has given me, and I will update as I progress through it. These next few weeks I am looking to just put in a lot of miles to prepare for the begining of this program. Wish me luck guys. I hope to see many of you in April at Collegiate National Championships.
